These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things {two}

I settled myself on the couch, my blankie beside me and my thumb in my mouth. “What do you want to watch?” My mom asked me. “A cartoon or pretty girls in pretty dresses?”
“Pretty girls and pretty dresses.” I said around my thumb.

Ever since I can remember I have had a great love for movies with “Pretty girls in pretty dresses” – i.e., classic movies and musicals from Hollywood’s Golden Era. The beautiful costumes and elaborate sets, the vivid colors of Technicolor, the tremendous amount of skill and creativity demonstrated on every level from filming to choreography, the loose plots constructed to showcase the talents of the actors and actresses, the singing and dancing with the men suave and gentlemanly and the women so graceful in their swirling gowns…yes, old Hollywood Glamour is and has always been one of my favorite things!

Last night we started watching “Call Me Madam” (with Ethel Merman, Donald O’Connor, and Vera Ellen) – I’d seen the movie once at least 10 or more years ago, and bits and pieces of it (and one entire song! except for one line which I just learned the words to) have stuck in my mind ever since then. When I started watching it for the second time, I was excited to see that it was an Irving Berlin film – you know those are always good. 🙂 As always, I loved staring at the beautiful dresses, watching the lovely dancing, and hearing the tunes that just beg to be hummed as you go about your day – especially “It’s a Lovely Day” and “You’re Just In Love (I Wonder Why)” .

I chose a few pictures from some of the slightly lesser-known scenes from a few of my favorite movies for the picture collage above- can you identify any of the movies they are from?
